FERRIS - The Ferris Police Department is investigating a possible gang-related sho-oting in the northwest portion of town referred to as the 'flats.'

Lt. Sherman Swafford said the shooting occurred Dec. 17 at around 10 p.m. 'We got a call at about 10 p.m.,' Swafford said. 'There was six rounds shot off at Wood and Avenue B Streets. Right now, we don't know if the suspects were from Italy, but it is gang-related.'

The shooting was the night before the Ferris-Italy basketball game.

'The game was suspended well before the shooting,' Swafford said. 'There were some potential problems.'

'Italy High School coaches contacted Ferris about being uncomfortable with having the game,' said Larry Hairgrove, Ferris ISD superintendent. 'It was a precautionary measure. I don't know any of the facts, so I would hesitate to comment.'

As of press time, the Ferris PD had not made any arrests or a list of suspects. Those with information should contact Lt. Sherman Swaf-ford at 972-544-2225, extension 201. More details on the shooting will be made in next week's issue.
