FERRIS - The bid to build a new sidewalk on Main Street was awarded at the Ferris Council meeting on Monday, Aug. 20.
Randall & Blake Inc. won the contract with the lowest bid submitted of $41,594.71 to completely rebuild the sidewalk in front of the businesses on Main, between 5th and 6th Streets.
'This bid allowed more money to put (temporary business access) to the merchants,' said Ferris Main Street Coordinator Marietta Allen.
Allen said she hasn't had any negative response from the merchants who will suffer some inconvenience during the construction.
She said the construction would begin this week and was a 30-day project.
The contractors say the project will be complete for this year's Pioneer Days celebration.
Allen said the bid was $8,000 less than the budgeted amount, so streetlights and trash receptacles will now become part of the project.
