WAXAHACHIE - During a routine transfer of prisoners at the Ellis County Detention Center at about 8:45 p.m. on Feb. 7, one inmate jumped into a tan/beige colored vehicle driven by a Hispanic woman.
The report stated the inmate was the middle inmate in a chain of five.
A fire alarm sounded just before the group walked out of the cellblock. Officers believe it may have been a diversion.
The vehicle was subsequently stopped at Sterrett and IH35 at about 8:55 p.m. The driver was taken into custody along with the inmate.
Officers later found a handcuff key on the floor in the cellblock.
