RED OAK - An undercover drug bust turned into a dangerous scene from a Hollywood movie when a suspect drew gunfire in attempting to escape capture.

The incident happened Monday, Jan. 15, at approximately 7:40 p.m. when officers of the Ellis County Narcotics Task Force performed an undercover operation at the Knox Truck Stop in Red Oak.

When members of the task force team attempted to apprehend the suspect after the drug buy, the Lancaster man attempted to flee in his truck and ran over the foot of an officer, causing minor injuries.

Another officer fired on the suspect's vehicle when it continued and endangered other officers involved in the arrest.

A short pursuit ensued before Red Oak Police Department officers stopped the suspect on Red Oak Road, east of the truck stop. Officers from the Red Oak and Ellis County Sheriff's Department apprehended the suspect without further incident.

The suspect was charged with felony delivery of marijuana over five pounds, aggravated assault on a peace officer and evading arrest.
