Don’t believe what they say

Word is circulating around Ellis County if the current county tax rollback petition is successful, the sky will...well, will essentially fall.
Hark! Who might be on the receiving end of these warnings? In its most basic sense, some of the good guys are being stirred up and agitated, issued early warnings, if you will, their county funds will be drastically cut or totally removed, should the rollback occur...or their very job might be lost.
Everyday, county employees, including sheriff's deputies who participated in a petition drive just a few months ago, have even been receiving these dire warnings.
The big boys' jobs are not endangered, we're told, but countless others definitely are.
The high-dollar building plans will go forward, too, according to county prognosticators, but jobs, jobs, and even more county jobs will fail to exist. The common county employees' heads will have to roll.
County government will be forced to shrink back into the confines of Waxahachie. 'Services' will be lost in outlying areas. It's in the numbers, don't you know. Just take a gander at all those county obligations. Look at our numbers.
They speak for themselves. 'We just must have those added tax dollars (26.07 percent increase) or a pall will forever fall over Ellis County.'
Never mind tax rollbacks occur all the time...all over America. Happened right here in Ellis County, not that many years ago. Somehow the county survived that one and regular tax-paying citizen's pocketbooks are the better for it. Up until now, that is.
If you were determined to enter into a scare-tactics routine, I suspect you would be doing the very exact things currently being done by the principle players trying to block the rollback. Hmmm....Isn't it strange how rumors of doom are so easily picked up by establishment types. If they would just keep it to themselves, the regular citizen would never know how close 'a government shutdown' had come to them. But no, these doom-sayers are spring-loaded in the jaw, passing on the unfriendly predictions to all who will listen...alarming the weakest among us; even convincing some that we're not paying nearly enough in taxes. Poor management somehow never comes up...
If the rollback is successful, you can put this in your pipe and smoke it. Those in power will deliberately initiate actions, whereby they may play the blame-game. Low level jobs will be cut, so that they may point the finger and say, 'It's their fault!' Get ready, for that will definitely be their way of getting in the citizen's face to say, 'We told you so.' Certain outlying towns will have offices shut down. Not so much that it has to be done, but we the people must be taught a lesson. Don't cross the powers, their bureaucracy, or the establishment...ever!
One thing you will not see out of most of the current commissioners court crop; a sane, common sense approach to county government. Some would like to do so, but are unable to get out from under the cloak that has covered them thus far. Perhaps incoming commissioners will try to represent the people. If they are successful, maybe, just maybe those under the shroud will come out and do what they swore to do upon occupation of their office.
Let's hope for this surprise.
Meanwhile, Merry Christmas, and, as Tiny Tim was apt to say, 'God Bless Us, Everyone!'
