Lo-JACK aids in recovery of stolen vehicle
FERRIS – An Ellis County Sheriff’s Deputy recovered a stolen vehicle and made a suspect arrest Nov. 28 through use of the Lo-JACK system.
Lo-JACK alerts law enforcement to stolen vehicles registered with its system. Sheriff’s Deputy Anton Mikeska northbound Interstate 45 service road in Ennis when his patrol unit’s Lo-JACK automatically activated.
The alert code was confirmed through dispatch, with the system returning a vehicle description. Mikeska got on the Interstate to locate the vehicle the system indicated was traveling northbound.
Mikeska told dispatchers to have the Ferris Police Department be on the lookout up ahead for the vehicle. A Ferris officer spotted a vehicle matching the description and pulled it over at the 269-mile marker.
Mikeska arrived and confirmed the vehicle was reported stolen out of the Houston Police Department. Arrested at the scene was Jakorey Hutson, 26, of Houston, who was booked into Wayne McCollum Detention Center on a third-degree felony charge of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Bond was set at $5,000.
