UPDATE: Lancaster to begin Ground Spraying
The City of Lancaster has coordinated with Dallas County Health and Human Servicesand will conduct ground spraying on Friday, Aug. 24 and Saturday, Aug. 25.
Spraying will begin atapproximately 10 p.m. each evening, weather permitting.
Since July 12, Dallas County Health and Human Services has reported three confirmed human casesof the West Nile Virus and one confirmed mosquito test in Lancaster.
The City has been proactive in itsapproach to addressing the West Nile Virus, by treating standing water sources with larvacide tablets andpublic education.
Although the pesticide is approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, residents are advised to takethe following precautions: Minimize exposure, remain indoors during the hours while spraying is inprogress, keep windows closed.
If skin or clothes are exposed, wash them with soap and water. Rinsehomegrown fruits and vegetables as a precaution.
Cover small ornamental fish ponds and keep petsinside, if possible.
The chemical breaks down quickly in sunlight and water, so no special precautions are suggested for outdoor swimming pools.
Update: The City of Lancaster will conduct the second round of Ground Spraying Tuesday, Aug. 28 at approximately 10 p.m.
Due to weather conditions Saturday, Aug. 25 the second round of Ground Spraying was not conducted.
