LANCASTER - In wake of the recent damaging storms in North Texas on Tuesday, April 3, the North Texas Assemblies of God (AG) and Convoy of Hope are partnering for disaster relief in Lancaster.

Volunteers will meet at Harmony Tabernacle (200 Rea St., Lancaster, Texas, 75146) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 5—Friday, April 6.

“It’s devastating that our community is going through this. But, it’s clear that God has had his hand in the midst of this disaster – out of all the damage that has been done, there have been no deaths and few with injuries. We want to show those in Lancaster that have been affected by the tornadoes that God is here for them spiritually, emotionally and practically,” said Pastor of Harmony Tabernacle David Bush.

Harmony Tabernacle is partnering with several other local Assembly of God churches including The Oaks Fellowship (Red Oak, Texas), Trinity Church (Red Oak, Texas) and The Promise Church (Desoto, Texas), in addition to Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Under the direction and with the resources of Convoy of Hope, North Texas AG will have volunteer training every hour starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 5. Volunteers are to wear thick sole shoes, jeans, and to bring a pair of gloves if possible.

The teams will offer water and boxes for personal items, sift through debris, and clean houses and yards. Each team leader will accompany the homeowner to direct the team on how to better meet the individual’s specific needs.

“The work in Forney is already moving quickly because of the strong support from local churches, and we expect the same in Lancaster once they open the neighborhoods for clean up,” said Convoy of Hope Disaster Relief team member Nick Wiersma.

“Convoy of Hope helps millions of people all over the world. Time and time again, we see that the local church is the backbone in disaster relief, helping the community get back on their feet again.”

Convoy of Hope is a faith-based, nonprofit that has served more than 50 million throughout the world through international children’s feeding initiatives, community outreaches, disaster response and partner resourcing.
