Ortiz named new Waxahachie Civic Director
WAXAHACHIE - April Ortiz has been appointed Director of the Waxahachie Civic Center. April was the unanimous selection after serving as the interim director since February of 2011.
Ortiz joined the Waxahachie Civic Center in October 2001 as an Event Sales Coordinator, and was promoted to Senior Event Sales Coordinator in April of 2003, holding that position until being appointed as interim Director last year.
“In her role as interim Director, April has truly proven herself to be worthy of the job,” said City Manager Paul Stevens.
“April has been a great asset to the Civic Center for the past ten years, and we’re confident that she will continue to do so. Our community is growing, and along with that, the opportunities for the Civic Center are increasing, and we have a great Civic Center staff in place to help the facility continue to flourish in to future,” said Stevens.
The Civic Center Director reports to the Stevens and responsibilities include planning, directing, managing and overseeing the activities and operations of the Civic Center functions including personnel, events, contracts, business solicitations and other projects as assigned.
The Civic Center is also under the general direction of the Waxahachie Community Development Corporation, which oversees the Civic Center and Waxahachie Sports Complex facilities, and provides guidance to the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
