Breaking: Red Oak to test for Tuberculosis
Statement from Red Oak Independent School District
Red Oak Independent School District values the safety and well-being of our students and staff. With that as our continued focus, we are informing you that we have been notified by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) regarding a questionable tuberculosis (TB) screening of a ROISD staff member at Wooden Elementary School. At this time, Red Oak ISD does not have a confirmed active TB case; however, as a precautionary measure the District is currently working under the direction of the TDSHS to begin screening students and staff who have been in prolonged contact with this individual.
The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. The ROISD Administration will be coordinating our efforts with the TDSHS, local City officials, and the ROISD Safety Management Team. As additional information becomes available from the Texas Department of State Health Services, the Red Oak ISD Administration will communicate with parents, staff, and the community at large in order to keep everyone informed. To help answer any questions, we have made arrangements for two informational meetings:

The TDSHS has assigned Tuesday, January 31, 2012, as the date in which they will conduct the initial screening of identified students and staff. Letters to parents went home today including detailed information of the screening process.
The safety and well-being of our students and staff remains our top priority, therefore, Red Oak ISD has chosen to contract with a local health care provider to offer testing at no cost to all Wooden Elementary students and staff who were not selected in the initial screening by the TDSHS.
ROISD has established a health information line staffed by our district nurses that parents may call with questions. The number of the information line is 972-617-4782. Please also refer to the list of Frequently Asked Questions and additional information concerning TB located on the following websites:

In closing, this is a precautionary measure under the recommendation of the Texas Department of State Health Services. At this time, Red Oak ISD does not have a confirmed active TB case. ROISD will continue to monitor this situation very closely and we will update our website as information becomes available.
