Dallas: Woodall Rodgers Eastbound Mainlanes Closed This Weekend
Traffic will be detoured to I-30
DALLAS – The Texas Department of Transportation will close the eastbound mainlanes of Woodall Rodgers Freeway to through traffic this weekend beginning at midnight Saturday, Jan. 7through 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
Then at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, the eastbound mainlanes will again close until 5 a.m. Monday morning. The westbound mainlanes as well as both frontage roads will remain open. The closure is one of the limited number of weekend closures allowable by contract for the Woodall Rodgers Deck Park project.
Both northbound and southbound I-35E traffic bound for eastbound Woodall Rodgers will be detoured to eastbound I-30. Portable message signs have been placed informing motorists of the upcoming closures.
The closures are necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public as the contractor installs fireproofing to the underside of the beams over Woodall Rodgers Freeway. The fireproofing will protect the beams from damage in the event of a fire on Woodall Rodgers.
TxDOT strives to minimize the impact of these closures to area motorists by limiting the work to off-peak hours or weekends, limiting the number of closures, and giving consideration to weekend events in the area.
Information on future construction activities will be posted on TxDOT’s website at www.txdot.gov in addition to postings on the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation website at www.theparkdallas.org under the mobility section.
TxDOT awarded the $44.5 million dollar contract to Archer Western to construct the deck and plaza over Woodall Rodgers Freeway and the project is expected to be complete in early 2012.
