Officer kills burglary suspect; Case under investigation
MIDLOTHIAN – A man believed to have robbed a Wells Fargo bank in Cedar Hill was shot and killed after a high-speed chase went through Midlothian, Tuesday, Oct. 18.
The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, reportedly robbed the bank off U. S. Highway 67 near Belt Line Road around 3 p.m. Tuesday before fleeing the scene.
After spotting a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect, Cedar Hill Police Department chased the suspect onto Highway 67 as he entered Midlothian city limits, then Midlothian Police Department joined in the pursuit.
At the Highway 67 and U.S. Highway 287 intersection, the suspect went off road and across the railroad tracks before getting out of his vehicle and running.
According to reports, police said the man “charged towards a Midlothian police officer with a weapon in hand” before the MPD officer shot the suspect several times.
The suspect was pronounced dead at 3:48 p.m.
Officer’s name was not given as investigation is currently pending with the Texas Department of Public Safety. The officer is currently on administrative leave and no other injuries were reported.
