Council approves redistricting
LANCASTER – Council unanimously approved the final plans for the 2010 redistricting process Monday, Oct.10.
With only minor questions remaining by council after the public hearing last Monday, Oct.3, the meetings only action item, redistricting, was voted on and sent over for approval by the state.
District 4 Councilman James Daniels wasn’t present due to personal reasons.
Redistricting attorney John Long noted District 6 Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Nina Morris’ question about African American percentage in her district was “remarkably the same percentage as the plan in 2000.”
“For the year 2000 in district 6 African Americans made up 84.45 percent of the 4,456 district population and for the year 2010 African Americans make up 84.5 percent of the 4,585 population,” said Long.
