WAXAHACHIE – Chief Charles Edge of the Waxahachie Police Department shared the good news of the receipt of a grant from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to promote education of underage drinking laws during Monday, Dec. 21 regular scheduled council meeting.

"Officer Wynn applied for the grant and we have heard back, now all we need is your [the council] approval to accept," said Edge.

The grant, with no paybacks or matching, is for the amount of $8,700.

Edge addressed the concerns parents had bringing alcohol for consumption to the city during elections.

"Impacting Waxahachie not only by enforcement, stings and tapping will be an opportunity to get these kids for underage drinking," said Chief Edge.

In other related police news, Lieutenant Russell Poyner will be retiring after 24 years of service.

A retirement party will be held at the council chambers in city hall at 3 p.m. Dec. 30.
