WILMER – The Wilmer Police Department is leading a Toy Drive for local families in need during this holiday season.

"Due to the tough economic times, more families are needing help than usual this year and the police department will do anything they can to make a child have a smile on his/hers face come Christmas morning," said Chief Victor Kemp.

"Those who can help or encouraged to do so by dropping donations off at the Wilmer Police Department, City Hall or Library.

"Donations of all kinds can include an unwrapped toy for a boy or girl, bikes, non-perishable food items and cash gifts will be welcome as well," said Kemp.

Deadline for donations will be 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22.

Anyone wishing to volunteer their time to wrap toys and put baskets together may reach Chief Victor Kemp at 972-441-6565 or via e-mail at wilmerpolice@cityofwilmer.com to get more information.

Families in need this holiday season should sign up at the Police Department or City Hall as soon as possible.
