AUSTIN – There’s another Ellis County connection to the
Republican Party of Texas these days, this time in the role of spokesman. Bryan Preston, an Ovilla
native and Red Oak High School graduate, left reporting duties at HotAir.com, a
national blog he co-founded with conservative star author Michelle Malkin, and
producing duties at Laura Ingraham’s conservative talk radio show to man the
official public relations front for the Texas GOP. Preston, with the official
title as communications director, has been on the job in Austin for six months
and joins the Ellis County connections to the state party. Former Texas GOP
executive director Wayne Hamilton grew up in Ovilla, and Oak Leaf’s Mike
Geeslin is now the state insurance commissioner. Mike Hendrix, a former Texas
Young Republicans Federation chairman, launched his political career by running
for Midlothian school board when he was 18; he’s currently a political
consultant in Washington, D.C. Last weekend, Preston issued
the press statements after the Republican Party of Texas’ executive committee –
which consists of a male and female member from each of the state’s 31 senate
districts – elected Texas Eagle Forum president Cathie Adams its new chair,
replacing Tina Benkiser, who resigned to take a position with Gov. Rick Perry’s
re-election campaign.
