FERRIS - Police are investigating the deaths of two local residents found in their bedroom apparently stabbed to death early Monday morning.
Steven Taylor, 39 and Jeanine Johnson, 29, where both found dead by Taylors brother around 1 p.m. Monday at their home on 404 S. Church Street.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner was called to "work the scene," according to Ferris Chief of Police Frank Mooney.
Time of death was estimated to be around 11 p.m Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.
Investigators have ruled the deaths as a double-homicide and are seeking a motive in the killings.
Her 12-year-old son was not with her, but with his father in Lancaster, according to Investigator Sam Love.
The victims’s brother was suppose to work with Taylor that morning and after numerous attempts to reach him and his girlfriend, by calling and texting he decided to go over to their home and see the if everything was ok.
Upon arrival, the doors were locked so he went into the single story frame home through a window where the brother then found two bodies in the bedroom and flagged down a nearby city employee who called police.
Johnson, according to Ferris Police Chief Frank Mooney, was found with " what appears to be defensive cuts on her legs and body, and a slashed throat."
Taylor, who was renting the home, was said to have deep puncture wounds to his legs, which could have hit the femoral artery causing excessive bleeding.
" We don’t know if this is internal or external yet, but it had to be somebody that was close with access to their home, " said Chief Mooney.
There was no apparent forced entry and nothing was stolen.
Mayor of Ferris, Jim Parks Jr. was present with concern.
"Yes, [they were very good friends of mine],we were softball buddies."
Chief Mooney said that people shouldn’t be overly alarmed, just act like they would under normal circumstances.
Dallas County Physical Evidence was called in to remove the deceased.
A number of residents have reported seeing someone on the street corner early that morning between 2-4 a.m.
Police are having a sketch artist fly in Wednesday, March 25, to see if they can’t get a sketch of a suspected man who was in that vehicle.
This is the third homicide in Ferris since a 1992 incident when Tommy Lee George, 27, an employee with the City of Ferris at the time, was charged with killing Velma Jean Wilson, 40, on 701A Ferris St., with a single stab to the chest by a screwdriver.
