GLENN HEIGHTS – Brian Laffery, former manager of the Glenn Heights Subway on East Ovilla Road, was reportedly fired after the Jan. 22 issue of The Ellis County Press hit newsstands.
Details about miscommunication erupted between the store owner and the employee being responsible paying back the store when he was robbed by gunpoint.
The employee has since received his paycheck and none of the missing funds had been removed. He did have a discussion about money management.
There is an apparent policy in effect limiting currency to $75 in the register after 7 p.m.
"I’m not sure when it was taken into effect, but I do know the policy [was put into place several years ago] and if you are swamped or have four people in line with $20 orders you are going to go over," said Laffery.
New manager Ashley Covington didn’t know anything about the past other than Laffery had been terminated and she was hired last Wednesday.
"He[store owner Robert Suarez] did mention the story was unorganized and that sorta thing but he didn’t say it [being fired] was the direct cause, said Laffery.
When contacted the first time, owner Robert Suarez said, "you need to get your facts straight."
"Everyone always wanted me to be kinda shady and top secret about what was going on at the store.
"It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if others are fired or have their hours cut," said Laffery.
Attempts to reach higher district reps were unsuccessful after Suarez hung up when contacted a second time.
