ELLIS COUNTY-  With just mere hours to go, the anticipation for the new sheriff of Ellis County is growing.

Write-in candidate, Susan Welch-Rodriguez, said she is just busy doing everything she can for the big evening.

If elected, she said the first thing she will do after being sworn in is beginning to get to know everyone and evaluate the department.

Johny Brown, who won this year in the run-offs; has been making good on his campaign promises getting the feel of what everyone on staff has to deal with working in other departments. Such as working the floors as a detention officer and even putting on a headset handling dispatch.

Brown said the first thing he would do on Jan.1 after being sworn in is to start swearing other people in.

The two candidates both feel that the top issue to work on is is better training.

Jane Anderson, Elections Administrator for the county, said that they do post a list of the write in candidates inside the voting booths.  The question has arose a few times about the what needs to be written out for write-in candidates.

"As long as we can ascertain by what the voters intent is, it doesn't have to be the correct spelling" said Anderson.
