State Rep. Jim Pitts, R-Waxahachie, has collected $78,390 in campaign contributions in his re-election bid against Libertarian Phil Smart. Along with expenditures of $45,247.37, Pitts, who was first elected in 1992, has $404,069.23 in cash on hand.
Smart, making his third run for office, reported no money collected or spent. Pitts is widely rumored to be seeking the Texas House of Representatives’ speak-ership in Austin when the Legislature convenes in January.
