Wilmer- Mayor Don
Hudson resigned Tuesday night to move to his recently completed home
near Palmer to spend more time with his family, opening up the
mayoral seat several months into Hudson's second term.
Councilman Eugene Lowe, who beat Hudson
in his first attempt to run for mayor, was ecstatic when he heard the
news, “ I can't jump up and down right now because I might hit my
head.”
Mayor Pro-Tem Matias Leal, who was elected in May,
will serve as mayor of the now-five-member council until the Wilmer
city council decides to vote for a replacement or not.
“There has been no discussion if we
will [bring someone new in]” said councilwoman Tiny
Lange.
Hudson's supporters currently have a 3-2 majority on
the council; Eugene Lowe and Dean Rolison oppose Hudson's political
majority on numerous issues.
Lange, who has bought a 15- acre wooded farm in Gilmer,TX is rumored to be on her way out was
well.
“ I don't even have my house up for
sale here yet. The property isn't even cleared yet.. That's for when
we retire somewhere [down the line] like in a year or two or even
three.”said Lange.
Some are questioning whether this will
mean Hudson's opponents - led by ex-mayor Linda Root - will regain
control.
Root, whom Hudson defeated in 2004,
supported registered sex offender Brian Sliter earlier this year in
Hudson's tight re-election race.
