WILMER – City Administrator Thom Lauer was fired by recently re-elected incumbent Mayor Don Hudson yesterday.

Hudson told The Ellis County Press Lauer’s "services were no longer needed."

The city council could make the final decision to approve Hudson’s action, but specific reasons for the firing would only come out during an appeal before the council, Hudson said.

In other related news, Hudson again responded to critics about a retirement home outside of Palmer, in which he said he’s waiting for the new home to be constructed before resigning his mayoral seat.

Hudson said he still receives mail and lives in Wilmer.

"Some people have a right to have concerns [about the new house], but the house isn’t even completed yet," Hudson said.

Lauer could not be reached for comment.
