Submitted Photo AIRPORT RECEPTION – After a warm welcome from Congressman Barton, airport staff and dozens of strangers who just wanted to say thank you, the veterans departed for the WWII memorial. Organizers dubbed the trip each of the veterans, who range in age from 80 to 89, was wearing a shirt bearing that phrase. The 32 North Texas veterans, 31 men and one woman, laid an American flag and a wreath in front of the Texas portion of the memorial to honor their fellow soldiers who died during the war and in the years since. Some had tears in their eyes as a lone trumpet played Taps and a bagpiper performed Amazing Grace. The veterans and their sponsors will have a banquet tonight, and then on Thursday they will tour Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon before heading back to Ellis County.
