WILMER-HUTCHINS – Wilmer and Hutchins city council candidates
offered their take on the southern Dallas County towns’ liquor
elections Saturday.
Voting for the
election May 10 is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“If it
happens it happens. I'm not really for or against it,” said Wilmer
council candidate Matias Leal.
While Wilmer Mayor Don Hudson thinks it should be left up to the
citizens to vote and decide, Stan Bell and Marlena Hagen both are
against it. Bell told The Ellis County Press he believes “the
negatives of beer and wine sales are greater than the positive.”
Over in Hutchins, north of Wilmer, the mayoral race has incumbent
Artis Johnson not wanting to comment on whether or not he believes in
beer, wine or liquor, which was put on the ballot after petitions
were signed with 35 percent of the 2006 gubernatorial election
voters.
Challenger Rodney Henderson seems to agree. “I'm all for the
people. If that's what they want I'm all for it.I would like to try
and help them get what they want. If they want to voice their opinion
that's great.”
Voting locations are as follows : Wilmer Community
Center and the Hutchins Community Center.
