Man accused of sexual assault caught
WAXAHACHIE - On Wednesday, Aug. 10 Waxahachie Police Officers observed a black Honda traveling on E. Main Street when the vehicle failed to use its turn signal.
After conducting a traffic stop, the driver, Christopher E. Branch, was found with a small baggie containing a “green leafy substance” in plain view on the floorboard of his driver’s seat as well as a unmarked pill bottle containing various pills.
According to the arrest affidavit, officers knew the substance in the baggie was marijuana from training and experience. The pills were identified as Xanax.
After running the 20-year-old black male’s name through the database, officers discovered he was wanted on a WPD warrant for sexual assault of a child.
During a vehicle search, a small handgun was found loaded on the driver’s side door.
Branch was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child, unlicensed possession of a firearm by felon, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of marijuana with bonds totaling $130,000.
According to the affidavit, Branch had previous convictions of burglary of a building, engaging in organized criminal activity, unlicensed carrying of weapon by felon and theft over $1,500.
