We laughed when Gov. Rick Perry announced the "death" of the immensely unpopular Trans-Texas Corridor earlier this year. That massive connection of proposed toll roads and highways that parallel the current interstate system didnt die, it just changed names.
Now, Ellis County is faced with its own Trans-Texas Corridor in the form of Loop 9, a project that was created in the 1950s and only now actually close to breaking ground.
It is with alarm and eternal vigilance that The Ellis County Press help residents in southern Dallas County Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Glenn Heights, Lancaster, Wilmer and northern Ellis County, Midlothian, Oak Leaf, Ovilla, Ferris, Red Oak and points in between from the coming taking of their homes, businesses and property.
Sure, highways spur economic development, but they also come with horrible consequences if taxpayers are not watching: the government has and will again, take your property even if you dont sell.
That is the main point of opposition to this reliever route south of Interstate Highway 20.
This papers former news editor has launched StopLoop9.com in hopes of signing up affected taxpayers to the e-mail updates that will come with each passing public hearing or meeting.
We must take the spirit of the new "tea parties" and protest the taking of our private property and our sacred honor.
Visit StopLoop9.com to get involved.
