Fire marshal cancels fireworks for DeSoto and Lancaster
DESOTO - DeSoto Fire Marshal Michael Laws announced the joint DeSoto and Lancaster fireworks show scheduled for July 4th will be postponed due to the extremely dry conditions.
“Our fireworks show was scheduled to take place at Meadowcreek Park which is located next to a densely wooded area. Because of its close proximity to the fireworks landing zone, I became concerned about the risk of fire,” said Fire Marshal Laws. “Dallas County has a ban burn in place for the next 90-days. Because of the extreme dryness and with no rain in the forecast, I felt the risk was just too great,” said Laws.
Tentative plans are underway to move the fireworks show to Labor Day weekend.
However, the party is still on. The fireworks show is just one of the events planned for July 4th (albeit the most important event). DeSoto’s Parks Department would like to announce the concerts, kid’s activities and food vendors will move to the outdoor amphitheater at DeSoto Town Center on July 4th. The outdoor amphitheater is located behind the DeSoto Public Library and Civic Center at 211 E. Pleasant Run Road.
Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with lots of food and activities for kids. Free concerts featuring Just Praise Ministries at 6:45 p.m., and Eric McNare at 7 p.m. will provide a great evening of free entertainment leading up to our headliner, Corrian & the Crew who will perform at 8:15 p.m.. Corrian is a sultry R&B singer, songwriter and actress from Dallas. You’ll want to bring your lawn chairs and get a good spot at the amphitheater to enjoy the show.
Admission and parking are free.
