DESOTO - DeSoto High School Coach Chris Dyer has been named the 2009 Texas Coach of the Year for Boys Basketball by the National Federation of State High School (NFHS) Coaches Association. Coach Dyer received a plaque for his award Friday, Feb. 5 prior to the 7:30 p.m. varsity home game at the DeSoto High School Main Gym, 600 Eagle Dr.
Coach Dyer has taught and coached at DeSoto High School for the past 12 years of his 28 year career in education. He led the DeSoto Eagles to 5A State Championships in 2009 and 2003 as well as playoff runs for most of his 12 years as the head coa-ch.
He previous coached for seven years at Kimball High School in Dallas with Coach Jimmy Tubbs beginning in 1982, winning 5A State Championships there in 1990 as an assistant coach. Then was the head coach at South Oak Cliff from 1991-1997 with a 4A State Championship in 1992.
The NFHS Coaches Association provides leadership for the administration of education-based interscholastic activities, which support academic achie-vement, good citizenship and equitable opportunities.
The purpose is to stimulate or sustain support of the interscholastic athletic, music, speech, debate, theatre and spi-rit programs which are reaching and helping to educate millions of young boys and girls.
