RED OAK - The Hawks hosted the District leading Lancaster Tigers on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
The Hawks were looking for the upset and to position themselves for a playoff run, but Lancaster came into the game against Red Oak at 6-0 for a reason, they’re pretty good.
Earlier in the season, the Tigers won the match at home in a high scoring shootout with the Hawks hanging around to the very end, but the second match was a slightly slower tempo, but very exciting with some great ball by both teams.
The first half was very close and neither team could pull away.
The Tiger’s used their 6’-9" and 6’-10" players inside and clearly had the advantage.
The Hawks countered with great early outside shooting, which would later spread the Tiger’s defense and allowed the Hawks to score inside.
By halftime, the Tigers had a 4 point lead, but by mid-way through the third period, the Tigers started to pull away and never stopped.
The Hawks made a couple of runs in the fourth period, but the Tigers had an answer each time and went on to defeat the Hawks 69-55 to improve their District 15-4A record to 7-0 while the Hawks dropped to 3-4.
The JV and freshman teams didn’t fare any better with both teams losing to very good sub-varsity Lancaster teams.
