KENNEDALE – After struggling against Alvarado last week, the Ferris Yellowjackets had the daunting task of playing the Kennedale Wildcats in Kennedale Friday night.

Kennedale, who entered the game 7-0 and listed as SportsDay’s second-ranked Class 3A area team, was handed their first loss of the season, 13-12, by the Yellowjackets.

Ferris scored the first points with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Kidwill to Jeremy Masterson.

Edwin Munoz’s point after kick put the Jackets up 7-0.

Kennedale’s Tony Sabando answered back with an eight-yard run, but a failed tow-point conversion pass left the Wildcats trailing 7-6 through the rest of the first quarter.

Kennedale took the lead in the second quarter with a 15-yard rush by Steven Rivera.

After keeping Ferris scoreless, the Wildcats took the 12-7 lead into halftime.

A 21-yard field goal in the third quarter and a 35-yard field goal in the fourth from Edwin Munoz proved to be the Wildcats’ downfall as they suffered a one-point loss at home.

Plenty of treats for Ferris fans on Halloween weekend.

Jeremy Masterson led the receivers with three receptions for 43 yards and the only Yellowjackets touchdown of the game.

Shaka Collins had a big night rushing with 91 yards on 18 carries.

James Hopkins carried 16 times for 79 yards.

Ryan Kidwill was a perfect four of four with 59 yards passing and also rushed for 55 yards on seven tries.

The Yellowjackets allowed no passing yards from Kennedale who had to resort to running the ball for a total of 203 yards on 45 carries.

The Jackets host Kaufman as the finale to their regular season on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
