MAYPEARL - Last Tuesday night the Maypearl Lady Panthers took on the Grandview Lady Zebras at Grandview. The Lady Panthers won 8-1 over the Lady Zebras.
In the top of the first inning Lady Panther Karla Ford hit a one out single as did Kirbie Day. Carissa Reed hit a hard double and Ford came running home.
Emily Taylor hit the ball down toward first base.
A Lady Zebra error let Taylor reach safely at first and Day came home to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Lady Panthers going to the bottom of the first inning. Lady Panther pitcher Brittany Widner sat down all three Lady Zebras on just eleven pitches and when the Lady Panthers took their turn at bat, they had ten batters come up.
Six of them scored a run. Selena Tejada hit a leadoff single but was forced out later at home. Widner walked, Roxann Jones was safe on a fielder’s choice, Ford went 2 for 2 with a double and a RBI and Day also collected a RBI. With just one out Taylor was safe on an error and a run came home.
Stormie Walters hit a RBI double and scored later on a ground ball hit by Alex Fullen.
When the smoke cleared Maypearl led 8-0 going into the bottom of the second inning.
Widner continued her excellence when she fanned all three batters in the bottom of the second.
Maypearl was three up and three down in the top of the third. Lady Zebra Misty Mayse got a two out hit, but was called out later for leaving base to early. In the top of the fourth, Day had a lead of single, but was left at third. In the bottom half of the fourth Widner struck out the first two batters, but then Kelsay Foreman reached on an error.
Patsy Taggert smacked a double, but she and Foreman were both left stranded once Widner gained back her dominance with her third K of the inning.
George, who did a great job after the second inning, struck out two Lady Panthers and threw one out in the top of the fifth. Three Lady Zebras faced Widner in the fifth and again all three were sat down.
It was much of the same until the bottom of the seventh. No runs, hits, or errors. Facing a shutout, Lady Zebra Kelsey Foreman was safe on an error. She managed to score later and the game soon came to an end with Maypearl 8 Grandview 1.
