County Press takes 1st Place honors
ROCKWALL – The Ellis County Press took home 1st Place honors at the “2011 Texas Better Newspaper Contest” held at the Hilton Bella Harbor on Lake Ray Hubbard, Saturday June 18 by the Texas Press Association.
“I commend all my staff for their hard work making this publication possible,” said Publisher Charles D. Hatfield Jr.
“Without them, none of these awards would have been presented to us.”
The awards, presented to Megan Gray and Tia Mogged, on behalf of the staff for The Ellis County Press, were 1st Place in General Excellence and 1st Place in Website.
Certificates were presented after the morning ceremony including, 3rd place for News Writing and 3rd Place for Feature Photo, giving the ECP a total of four awards this year.
“I’m very pleased and proud that my photo was one of the two submitted placing third in feature photography,” said Production Manager Tia Mogged.
This is the papers second year in a row to be awarded 1st place in General Excellence and second out of three years for 1st place in Website.
“I can’t even express how excited I am, to be able to have placed at all, is just such an honor to me and 1st place two years in a row….that’s amazing,” said News Editor Megan Gray.
“I thank God everyday for his blessings to not only myself, but to my team here at the paper.”
