Area agencies pay respect to fallen officers

FERRIS - In honor and remembrance of police officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice, the Ferris Police Department will hold a candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at the Fallen Officer Memorial in the Ferris Town Square.

In addition to honoring fallen officers everywhere, FPD will be honoring two officers who lost their lives while performing their duty in Ferris.

“We encourage everyone to attend this observance,” said Ferris Police Chief Sam Love.

Tuesday, May 17, twenty- two law enforcement officers, who lost their lives on duty in 2010 and 2011 were remembered during the Department of Public Safety memorial service at the DPS headquarters in Austin.

The 21 officers honored during the roll call increased by 12 officers compared to last year’s service- including Lancaster Officer Craig Shaw shot and killed investigating a suspicious person Sunday, June 20, 2010.

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst was the guest speaker at the ceremony, one of the many across the nation honoring fallen law enforcement officers during “National Police Week.”
