WAXAHACHIE – Residents lined the procession route to pay their respects to a  fallen soldier returning home from Afghanistan Friday, April 29. Army PFC Joel Ramirez’s body arrived at the Mid-Way Regional Airport with tears and honor at 11 a.m. where Patriot Guard Riders escorted the soldier’s body from Mid-Way, jointly owned by the cities of Midlothian and Waxahachie, to the Wayne Boze Funeral Home along U.S. Highway 287.

Ramirez died on Saturday, April 16 when his unit was attacked with an improvised explosive device in the Nimroz province in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Services for Ramirez were held at the Waxahachie Civic Center Sunday, May 1, before transporting the 22-year-old’s body to his final resting place, next to his grandfather, at their family plot in Mexico.
