Soul’s Harbor receives donation from Access Self Storage
Local business gives clothing to support homeless men
Dallas - For the homeless community of Dallas, help is not always easy to find. A number of facilities exist in the metroplex that offer a warm meal and a bed for the night, but these locations are easily overwhelmed by the sheer number of those in need. Because of this, most of the shelters in the area are forced to turnover their occupants with little more than a few days’ respite under their belt, leaving many homeless citizens to face the same unchanging life once they depart.
One small Dallas facility has embraced what they see as a better way. Its occupants work hard to support themselves and their temporary home while growing through treatment programs for alcohol and substance abuse, addiction, and for relapse prevention. At the end of this 6-week combination of programs, occupants stay for an additional 4 weeks rent-free to save for a permanent home.
This is Soul’s Harbor, a non-profit facility serving Dallas-area needs for over 50 years. This month, Access Self Storage was able to donate 30 bags containing hundreds of clothing items to further the facility’s cause. “We love what they’re doing,” says Access owner Doug Hunt. “It’s not just shelter; it’s a a place that gives people their life back. We’re going to keep doing what we can to help.”
