Fire dept. receives grant

WILMER - Senator John Cornyn announced the Wilmer Fire Department is to receive a grant totaling $323,000 this week for vehicle acquisition.

According to City Secretary Alice Holloway, the grant, from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency, can be used for but not limited to, pumpers, aerials, quints, brush trucks, tankers/tenders, rescue vehicles, ambulances, foam units and fireboats.

In the 2010 fiscal year, more than $390 million was awarded to local firefighting agencies and EMS organizations across the United States to assist and enhance the performance capabilities to help the health and safety of the public.
