FERRIS - A 44–year-old Bristol man was caught breaking into local area businesses Sunday, Feb. 27.

Ferris Police Officer Chris Ellis arrested Thomas Augustus Gatlin at 2:23 a.m. for burglary of a building.

According to Police Chief Sam Love, Gatlin drove through the back of B&J’s printing, located on 107 Main Street, thinking it was the pharmacy .

"He also tried to get into Melinda’s Hair Salon, but he only was able to get in partially since it’s double paneled," said Love.

The word is, he was trying to get asthma medicine for his 16-year- old son but authorities have denied this being the main cause.

Gatlin, with no previous criminal history in the state, pulled a BB Gun out but placed it down as Officer Ellis was approaching.

"He never used [ the bb gun] or pointed it at the officer," said Love.

Gatlin was transferred to Ellis County Jail and has a bond of $15,000.
