Authorities investigating 22-year-old man's death
FERRIS - Highway Patrol is seeking assistance about a dead body discovered on Wednesday, Jan. 5 in Ferris.
According to a statement released by the Texas Highway Patrol, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department received a call around 1:23 a.m. that morning regarding a possible body lying on the roadway of southbound Interstate Highway 45 between Mile Markers 259-260.
Local police searched the area but were not able to locate anything. About an hour later, a second call came in concerning an animal, possibly a deer or large dog, on the roadway of southbound IH-45 near Mile Marker 263.
When police arrived on the scene, they discovered a body of a young male ran over several times before being found. The 22-year-old male was identified as Jeremy Elton Lofton.
Police determined Lofton had made a purchase at a store in Ferris at 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4, with video recovered during the investigation.
It’s believed Lofton was walking on or near the shoulder of Southbound IH-45 and pulling a small, dark colored rolling suitcase when he was hit.
The impact knocked him into the center lane and he was then run over by several other vehicles before being discovered.
The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information concerning this incident is urged to contact Highway Patrol Trooper Terry Eaton in Waxahachie at 972-923-6671.
