TxDOT program assists sheriff’s office in keeping roads safe

ELLIS COUNTY – This holiday season, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office participated in the Alcoholic Traffic Safety and Drunk Driving Prevention Program.
Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 21 and running through Saturday, Jan. 1 the ECSO made 18 driving while intoxicated arrests, one failure to ID fugitive (parole violation) arrest, four narcotic arrests, three public intoxication arrests and 20 warrant arrests.
The S.T.E.P. program is sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation and is directed at making the roads safer by getting drunk drivers off the road during the holidays.
The ECSO will be participating in the S.T.E.P. program again during spring break, Saturday, March 12 through Thursday, March 20.
