DESOTO - Five fires have occurred at The Southpoint Apartments located at 1021 Pecan Crossing, since Tuesday, Dec. 7 according to Public Information Officer Kathy Jones.

Another fire occurred on Monday, Sept. 20, at the same location the city believes may be a part of this series as well.

“There are similarities in the way these fires were started that leads us to believe that they were started by the same person or persons,” said DeSoto Fire Marshal, Michael Laws.

Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Bureau has been called to assist Laws and DeSoto Police with the investigation.

Accelerant detecting dogs have indicated flammable liquids may have been used to start at least two of the fires.

Samples have been sent to the State Fire Marshal’s lab in Austin. Results are pending.

The fire marshal laws request anyone with information regarding any of these fires to call 1-877-4FIRE45 (1-877-434-7345). If your information leads to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for these fires, you may receive a reward of up to $1,000.
