Progress on a façade improvement program for Ferris’ historic downtown leads the Main Street and Economic Development list of notable achievements in 2010.  Expected to kick off in early summer 2011, the combined Main Street & 4B EDC program will feature matching grants for physical improvements designed to beautify and preserve downtown buildings.

Last fall, the Main Street Board developed an updated policy for the downtown pavilion.  Designed to stimulate its use, it includes expanded hours and new pricing.   The board is also sponsoring a coloring book of historic Ferris buildings.  This spring, winners will be announced from the pool of FHS art students who submit drawings.

In addition to the Brick Festival and Christmas on the Square, the Ferris Downtown Association sponsored a 5K run/walk in October. Beautification efforts, parking solutions, advertising and raising awareness lead the group’s goals for 2011.

The 4A EDC Board voted to support major employer ATCO by providing matching funds for specialized training.  ATCO is a manufacturer of vehicular air conditioning systems.

A new 10,000 square foot retail complex will be coming to Ferris in 2011.  Tyler based ETPP will break ground in the spring.

The current Mutz Park baseball fields will be reconstructed after the spring season.  Thanks in part to the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, the fields should see increased activity by additional participants.

The newly appointed Park Board is working on a parks master plan. Funded by the 4B EDC Board, the completed plan will allow Ferris to apply for large scale Texas Parks & Wildlife grants.
