FERRIS - The city announced they were awarded with a $100,000 grant from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund to help support the renovation of both baseball fields at Mutz Park and providing funding for the reconstruction of the athletic fields officially Monday, Dec. 6.

"This is a wonderful opportunity, not only for our program, but for the children who play the game," said Ferris Mayor Rick Barrett.

"The Baseball Tomorrow Fund grant will enable Ferris to provide a quality experience for families who traditionally embrace baseball in our community, as well as for new entrants to the sport."

The city of Ferris is providing matching funds through a special revenue fund, and terms of the grant require the city to report on that fund in July of next year. The BTF grant will account for about 18-percent of the project’s total cost.

"The Baseball Tomorrow Fund, appreciates the city of Ferris commitment to youth baseball and softball in its community.

We are pleased to support the continued growth of this program," added Cathy Bradley, executive director of the Baseball Tomorrow Fund.

Since its formation by Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association in 1999, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund has awarded more than 500 grants totaling more than $19 million to non-profit and tax-exempt organizations in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.

The Baseball Tomorrow Fund receives approximately 500 applications each year and awards grants on a quarterly basis after a selective process.
