WAXAHACHIE – A man was mauled late Wednesday, Sept. 22 by his neighbor’s zebra.

According to reports from the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was called in at 9:45 p.m. with Palmer Fire, ECSO, East Texas Medical and CareFlite arriving to the 800 block of Rutherford Road in Waxahachie.

The white male believed to be in his 30s or 40s was attacked in his yard and bit on both of his legs before the animal bit his left cheek and he was transported by CareFlite to Dallas.

Outside sources say the man believed to be attacked was Waxahachie Pilot David Thompson.

Thompson, registered with aircraft data Web sites, has a Rutherford address and was still in Parkland Hospital over the weekend.

Since this is an exotic animal, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is currently investigating.

The zebra’s owner was contacted and the animal will be quarantined for approximately 10 days.
