Gods truth provides a light in dark times
As Christians and Americans, we face serious challenges and must assume responsibility concerning our future. When pressure comes, God reveals in His Word that we are to trust Him, never panic and faithfully build our lives on truth.
This week as I prayed for our country, wisdom and direction, God spoke to me through several passages of Scripture. I feel that what I heard in my spirit and saw clearly in His Word is important to everyone.
The night of Sept. 11, 2001, God led me to Isaiah 58. I hope you have at least read it prayerfully. I am seeing that what God promised is true, not only in my life, but in the lives of the friends and supporters of LIFE Outreach. God said, "Feed the hungry and help those in trouble, then your light will shine out from the darkness and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon."
Even in these dark hours God enables us to see clearly. He continued saying that, "The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring."
This means we not only experience fruitfulness, but we continually share life with others just as a flowing river produces abundance.
In troubled times, David turned to God’s promises and I was refreshed as I read them.
"Your unfailing love, o Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths." (Psalm 36:5-6)
"Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn." (Psalm 37:3)
As I read that, I certainly thought of my precious wife Betty. It seems that her very countenance is an inspiration to those who know her and see her on LIFE Today. Thank God! David went on to say, "Be still in the presence of the Lord and wait patiently for Him to act." (Psalm 37:7)
In this verse I heard, "Seek God’s presence. Rest in His arms. Trust Him to address the problems. Look for His face, not just His hand."
Somehow we must learn to enjoy His presence, just as we enjoy holding a child and having them settle in close to our hearts, so God enjoys us simply resting in His presence.
With all the adversity and economic pressure, as well as uncertainty about the future, which will surely be affected by the November 4 election, we need to hear David’s testimony as he said: "I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair... He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what He has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord." (Psalm 40:1-3)
David testified as we should: "I have not been afraid to speak out, as you, o Lord, well know. I have not kept the good news of your justice hidden in my heart; I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power. I have told everyone...of your unfailing love and faithfulness. Lord, don’t hold back your tender mercies from me. Let your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me." (Psalm 40:9-11)
As I read these words, I not only found comfort and encouragement, but I could easily see clearly where my security rests and where the hope and security for everyone must be found. May God help every reader to find the peace, direction and comfort that I found in God’s Word. Please pray that every Christian will vote in the upcoming election. There are many very serious issues to be considered: protecting the innocent, limiting government, enforcing our laws, upholding family and moral absolutes, and asking God to remove greed and indifference from the hearts of our citizens. Please pray that people will vote their convictions and pray that those beliefs are based on the Word of God. Always remember, He is the solid Rock upon which we must build and stand.
"The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand." (Psalm 37:23-24)
