THE VOICE: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord; make His paths straight.'" Matthew 3:3
In light of the recent passing of David Wilkerson, Pastor of Times Square Church and founder of World Challenge, I am afraid the last of the prophetic voices has been silenced. A great man of God, my mentor, a father of the faith and a consistent voice for the truth has passed away into eternity.
For over 50 years this mighty warrior stood in the gap for the church of the living God, never yielding to the whims of the worldly seekers as others have but instead always preaching the un-compromised word of God. Although very successful in ministry, he was never very popular with the TV preachers and prosperity boys.
Like John the baptist brother Wilkerson preached repentance and holiness never wavering no matter whose toes he stepped on and always consistent with the word of God. Throughout the years his prophetic voice cried out against the worldliness creeping into the church. The last of the true prophets of God has passed out of sight from worldly view into the realms of everlasting light.
"Repent for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand!" Matthew 3:2
The truth of God's word has been whitewashed with false doctrine perverting the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus, clouding the way of salvation. The modern day pastors and prophets have refused to preach the truth, not wanting to offend or upset the poor potential middle class tither, but instead have broadened the road to hell for the sake of money.
John the baptist preached repentance, Jesus preached repentance as did Peter, Paul and the rest of the apostles. Men were convicted of their sins and became disciples of Christ, washed in His blood and filled with His Spirit. Today all that is required is to silently bow ones head and mutter an anemic little prayer, fill out a card, join the church, get baptized and just show up and tithe.
What about the rich young ruler, Jesus told him he would have to repent and give up all to follow Him and when he couldn't do it Jesus let him go, He didn't say come and see if you like being a disciple, He said, "sell your stuff, give it to the poor and come follow Me!" The preachers of today's backslidden consumer driven church would have led the boy in a prayer, signed him up and made him a deacon over the finances in just a few short years.
"Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy out of their own heart, 'Hear the word of the Lord!' "
Thus says the Lord God: "Woe to the foolish prophets, who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing! "O Israel your prophets are like foxes in the deserts.
"You have not gone up into the gaps to build a wall for the house of Israel to stand in the battle on the day of the Lord." Ezekiel 13:1-5
The prophetic voice throughout the scriptures has always sought to turn God's people back to Him from whom they had defected. It is no different today, for the most part Christianity is a lifeless social club that meets once a week, listens to a mild sermonette of peace and safety and then for the next six days its business as usual while the world continues its downward spiral into hell!
Sitting in the comfort of their cathedrals of safety listening to beautiful music and songs of salvation but never venturing out into the real world of misery and pain to rescue the unlovely from their pits of destruction, they continue to ignore the mission at hand and allow the devil to destroy the world.
America is being destroyed, not because of Barak Obama, the Republican party or the Democrats, it is being torn to pieces by the powers of darkness who have been allowed to rob, kill and destroy, unchecked and without restraint because the prophetic voice has been silenced. Sin, sickness and an apathetic leadership have refused to train and equip God's people for the war that continues to rage right outside the doors of the "sanctuary."
And what of Samuel, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Elijah, not to mention Jonah who preached to an entire city and saw a great awakening because the people heard the word of the truth that set them free! Today if these men preached they would be deemed fanatics, crazed radicals preaching doom and gloom. I guarantee if the prophets of old could see what the evangelical church has turned into they would cry and weep before God.
Jesus prophesied that in the last days there would arise many false prophets and He warned us ahead of time to be watchful in all things. God's people have been lied to, deceived, and drawn away by charlatans, hucksters and downright thieves bilking them of millions of dollars so that they could continue their opulent lifestyles of pride and greed.
So whats the answer? Restore the preaching of the word of the living God, the new testament church didn't have the new testament, they heard the law and the prophets that turned their hearts toward God. Quit trying to be politically correct and start being biblically correct. Train and equip the people of God to go into the world and make disciples, tear down the old demonic priesthood of one man trying to shepherd God's people and allow Jesus to be the Chief Shepherd!
Last of all: run the world out of the church and quit trying to comfort worldly seekers who refuse to repent and follow Jesus, stand for the gospel of Jesus Christ and rebuke the works of the devil. Renounce the kingdom of darkness and establish the true kingdom of light in the hearts of a lost and dying world in desperate need of deliverance. May God have mercy on us all!
I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom:
Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (falsehood) II Timothy 4:1-4
