"Evil (corrupt, coarse, cursing, mocking, bitter, complaining, negative, critical...etc.) words just like evil thoughts proceed from a defiled heart.  The tongue cannot be tamed but as we seek God for where the defilement came in and repent of our sin then God will give us purified lips."
Geri McGhee

MAT 15:18-19 "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.  For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies those defile the man..."

JAM 3:5-9 "So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and {yet} it boasts of great things. Behold, how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, the {very} world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of {our} life, and is set on fire by hell. For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed by the human race. But no one can tame the tongue; {it is} a restless evil {and} full of deadly poison.  With it we bless {our} Lord and Father; and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God."

MAT 12:34-37 "....For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. The good man out of {his} good treasure brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of {his} evil treasure brings forth what is evil. And I say to you, that every careless word that men shall speak, they shall render account for it in the day of judgment. For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned (because our words show the condition of our heart)."
PSA 24:3-4 "Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

"let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled {clean} from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water."
Hebrews 10:22
