Grapevine freezes out Midlothian

DUNCANVILLE - Midlothian played host to Grapevine High School Thursday night in
Duncanville. Midlothian was forced to play with a shortened bench due to Spring
Break and it definitely took its toll on the team.
The lack of a full bench resulted in Midlothian's starting goalie having to play
front line while their back-up goalie guarded the net. Not fully realizing the
need to be cohesive in that situation, the Midlothian team was plagued by
ill-tempers and less than admirable attitudes.
Grapevine came out strong putting two goals on the board in the first period of
play. Their first goal came at 4:26 left on the scoreboard and the second came a
minute and a half later at 3:04 left on the clock. Grapevine kept up their
relentless barrage of goal scoring in the second period.
Grapevine sent five goals through the net, drilling the last one in with only
0:26 left in the period, to take a commanding lead of 7-0 going into the last
period.
A few of the faithful Midlothian fans that were left in the stands tried
valiantly to cheer their Panthers into scoring in the third period. It was not
meant to be as Grapevine easily tacked on four more goals, three of which split
the goal posts with less than four minutes left, in a painful eventual shut-out,
11-0.
Even after the stinging loss, the Panthers find themselves in the play-offs with
a 13-10 season record. The Panthers will play one more regular season game
before the play-offs, traveling to Frisco to face Plano West on March 26 at 6:45
p.m.
