Right from the beginning Crandall was up to their old tricks. Unable to outplay Ferris, Crandall resorted to several cheap shots to try to catch up. One of which happened in the opening period when a Crandall player pulled down a Ferris player by illegally wrapping his arm around the Ferris player's head. The Ferris coaches quickly realized what was taking place and put an end to it. Both teams played a tight first period with Ferris leading 11-7 at the end of eight minutes. After battling it out with Crandall through the second period, Ferris was able to take a 24-19 lead at half-time. In the second half of play, Ferris continued to fight their way through more bad ref calls and Crandall cheap shots all the while maintaining a lead. Crandall outscored Ferris in the third period 14-10 due to numerous questionable fouls resulting in free throws for Crandall. This allowed Crandall to be within one of Ferris, 34-33, at the beginning of the fourth period. Crandall was wearing down in the fourth while Ferris continued their battle for a victory. Ferris scored 17 points to Crandall's six in the last period to decisively take the district opener win 51-41. Ferris is 20-3 on the season and 1-0 in the district.
