The Ellis County Press: Midlothian Panthers ice hockey team takes on the Richardson Rampage Midlothian Panthers ice hockey team takes on the Richardson Rampage ================================================================================ Editor on 12/29/2008 10:07:00 JENNIFER MULHAUSEN The Ellis County Press MIDLOTHIAN - The Midlothian Panthers ice hockey team traveled to Richardson last Thursday to face the Richardson Rampage. The ice was not the only cold surface in the rink as both teams were plagued by penalty-happy referees. As parents and coaches from both teams watched in confusion, player after player on both sides made their way to the penalty box, or in some instances, the locker room. By the second period, Midlothian had a slight lead over the Rampage at 3-1. Both teams found their reserve energy and traded off goals through the remainder of the second period. As the game clock worked its way down the third period, Midlothian was able to again pull away from the Rampage. After several penalties and resulting power plays, Midlothian was able to claim the victory 9-5. The Midlothian team was started only a few years ago and is the only high school ice hockey team in Ellis County. Although not affiliated with Midlothian High School due to ice hockey not yet being recognized as a University Interscholastic League (UIL) sport, those who wish to play hockey in Ellis County play with Midlothian. With the majority of the players residing in and around Midlothian, there are also players from Ennis (1), Red Oak (1), and Waxahachie (3). When asked about their arguably unbridled way of playing on the ice, Ryan Pfeiffer, their head coach of two years, commented, "It probably isn't the ideal way to play, but my guys play better loose, so I just go with it." So when you're looking for something fast-paced, hard-hitting and high-energy go out and support the Midlothian ice hockey team.
