The Ellis County Press: A week of 2-a-days ends with a scrimmage against Prosper A week of 2-a-days ends with a scrimmage against Prosper ================================================================================ Steve Patterson on 08/19/2011 11:21:00 RED OAK - After enduring a week of 2-a-days, the Hawks finally got to hit someone else last Friday night. The freshman and JV teams split the field and each team ran a set number of plays. The varsity scrimmage was similar, except they played the whole field. Each team ran their plays and then switched and as typical for a scrimmage, there were as many bad plays as good. However, late in the scrimmage, the Hawks exploded for three touchdowns in a matter of five plays including a one handed diving catch in the back of the end zone by Jeremiah Gaines. On Prospers last series of plays, they finally got their offense rolling and scored two quick touchdowns through the air. However, the Hawks defense finally caught up to the Prosper passing attack and denied that three touchdown as the scrimmage ended. The coaches will have plenty to work on before their next scrimmage against Joshua, but they have plenty of good things to build on too. The Hawks graduated over 30 seniors last year and have filled those shoes with talented sophomores and juniors. The Hawks open their season on Thursday, Aug. 25 against N. Garland on the road on a rare Thursday night game and then return home on Friday, Sept. 2 to take on Lake Dallas.
